Shakeela's first movie was a Tamil soft porn movie named "Playgirls", in which Silk Smitha was the leading actress. After that she performed in many B graded movies. Her super hit film was kinnarathumpikal in Malayalam, which brought her under publicity. She had become popular by performing in B grade Malayalam films at a time when Malayalam film industry was going through a recession (All the films were flopping and the industry was fast losing its appeal).

The strict censor rules in other Indian states helped the B grade movie makers to focus in Malayalam, and were later dubbed in to other Indian languages.

After the censor rules were tightened in Malayalam, the B-Grade movie business got declined. Shakeela has featured in over 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, kannanda and Telugu in various roles.
